The MB® Lounge Chair Design
A protégé of Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer was a champion of the modern movement, and his entire body of work, both in architecture and furniture, embodies the driving Bauhaus objective to reconcile art and industry. His tubular-steel furniture collection, inspired by bicycle construction and fabricated using plumbing techniques, remains among the most identifiable icons of the modern furniture movement.
The MB Lounge Chair stands out with its seemingly continuous, free-floating frame, simultaneously reflecting tensile strength and straightforward elegance. In contrast to Breuer’s celebrated Wassily Chair, the MB Lounge features an upholstered foam cushion supported by horizontal metal springs, providing a subtle movement to the back. The natural oak armrests, finished with a clear lacquer, add a warm touch to this timeless design.
