The Risom® Lounge Chair Design Legacy
During World War II, Hans Knoll sought to create furniture that could be produced locally in New York, utilizing materials not limited by wartime restrictions. Jens Risom’s approach to design, focused on simplicity and functionality, proved to be the perfect solution. The resulting Risom Collection, which Risom described as “very basic, very simple, inexpensive, easy to make,” was constructed from offcast wood and discarded nylon webbing from parachute factories, embodying the spirit of innovation and resourcefulness.
Three-quarters of a century later, the Risom Lounge Chair carries the same ethos, reimagined for commercial and living spaces. The solid teak frame is treated with an oil finish, ensuring its resilience against the elements while developing a beautiful, silver patina over time. The Sunbrella® webbing, crafted from reinforced acrylic and polyester yarns, is UV-resistant, water-repellent, stain-resistant, and bleach-cleanable, ensuring long-lasting durability and effortless maintenance.
